Lord Lucan could have hidden in our warehouse

Paul Cope describes the problems he wanted to solve: “We had two 3,250 square metre (35,000 sq ft) warehouses with a total of 84 x 450W HPS lamps operating 24/5 and Saturdays. Even though we are not constantly in and out of all bays in the warehouse all the time, the old lamps couldn’t be switched off as they took 10-15 minutes to re-strike, so I wanted a more energy efficient solution. And to be honest, the lighting was getting so that Lord Lucan could have hidden in our warehouse!”

“Then there’s the maintenance problem. With 15 metre high ceilings (49 ft) you need to bring in a cherry picker to replace failed lamps and you can’t have people working underneath. That means we’d typically wait until 4-8 lamps had failed before hiring the scissor lift over a weekend to replace them. This was costing about £2,000 annually.”

“On top of that the HPS lamps are fragile and hang about 4-5 feet from the ceiling, so that just puts them in the range of an extended pallet truck. It was quite common to lose a few of them that way.”

Interior Control replaced the 84 x 450W HPS lamps on a one-to-one basis with the Dialight DuroSite? Series LED Linear high bay light. This highly robust 150W fitting features eight arrays in a compact oval pattern that enables it to direct light efficiently with less wastage and delivers an immediate saving in power of 66%.

Unlike HPS, the LED lighting has instant-on ability, so it works well with occupancy sensors and this has further increased energy saving to 72% as well as reducing carbon emissions by over 100 tonnes per year. The oval pattern of the arrays also means less wasted light on racking and more directed at floor level in the aisles where 110 lux was measured under the HPS, which had dimmed over time, increasing to 221 lux after the installation of the led high bay light. Tom Klimes comments: “We’ve removed the maintenance burden by fitting LED lighting, as these High Bays are warranted for five years of continuous performance and you can expect them to last ten or more if they’re not in use

would not have advantage from their low prices

In Chuang’s opinion, the standards adopted by the CMS program for LED lighting are almost as stringent as those in the Energy Star program. Therefore, the ITRI is confident that it will qualify for accreditation as an Energy Star testing organization. If this accreditation succeeds, it will help speed up the process for Taiwanese LED lighting products seeking to obtain the Energy Star label.

On December 1,  China new flat-panel TV energy efficiency standards was carried out, which contained three level standards: level one for most efficient products; level two for products that meet the lowest requirements for being labeled energy-efficiency products; and level three for products LED Linear high bay light meeting the minimum requirements for being allowed on the market. It’s estimated that would stimulate more price-cut promotion on products that did not meet the standard.

When the new standards were first reported in the end of June, venders started cleaning their inventories in the next five months. So until recently, venders should have clean out their most inventories. Also, this meant that a higher threshold in terms of cost and technology, and small- to medium-size players would not have advantage from their low prices, with the first-tier vendors focusing on higher efficiency products.

At present, First-tier vendors focused on led high bay light models, while local vendors focused on 32-, 40- and 42-inch models. Local brands had seen prices of their 32-inch LED-backlit TVs drop below CNY2, 500, and prices of popular LED-backlit models had dropped by around 20%. Prices for 40- and 42-inch models had dropped below CNY5,000, and some models from China vendors had dropped to as low as CNY4,000.

grow sapphire ingots to promote sales related to LED manufacturing

Market sources noted that Samsung planed to launch a series of price reductions for LED-backlit LCD TVs. Prices for LED Linear high bay light entry-level LED-backlit models were expected to drop by 40% to about US$499-599. But, in retail channels such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy, Samsung's major promotional focus seemed to be on CCFL-backlit models.

As report goes, Taiwan’s biggest manufacturer of silicon ingots, Sino-American Silicon Products Inc., plans to buy furnaces that GT Solar will build to grow sapphire ingots to promote sales related to LED manufacturing.

At a recent institutional-investor conference, executives from Sino-American disclosed the company will rise the output current output 60,000 wafers up to 180,000 wafers a month by the end of 2011,  fueling speculations that the company would buy GT Solar`s equipment.

Despite Sino-American Silicon is eager for its output of sapphire ingots, which now account for only 1-2% of its sales, the production methodology it is using now is out of efficient. For led high bay light, the company plans to roll out its first sapphire-ingot furnaces in April 2011, according to Scott Kroeger, vice president of GT Solar.

a municipality to pay a lower price for energy used for lighting

Most street lights are not metered for actual power usage. The new tariff would allow the utility to correctly calculate the LED Linear high bay light energy used by LED street lights and a municipality to pay a lower price for energy used for lighting.

In August of 2010, Central Hudson filed tariff revisions to add an LED rate option. The utility applied for the revision to support several municipalities’ stimulated funds to install led high bay light.

A leader of the Commission said, “A major operating cost municipalities face was the cost of operating and maintaining street lights, the key advantages of state-of-the-art LED street lights over traditional street lights were lower energy costs, improved night visibility, significantly longer life spans, reduced maintenance costs, and a much lower environmental impact. Installing more energy efficiency lighting devices was the wave of the future.”
