the issue of hot spot when reducing the number of LEDs

Compared to the price of a CCFL backlight module, which has already hit the price floor, the price of a LED monitor backlight module is the biggest obstacle when it comes to promotion. With cost reduction as an objective, manufacturers will start by changing the configuration of the light bar and LED lights in the new design. First, the mainstream 3020 low-power LEDs will be replaced with 5630 mid-power LEDs; under the same luminous flux, higher luminous efficacy significantly reduces the number of LEDs needed. In the new design, a single light bar is configured on the short side, compared with the existing design of a single or double light bar on the long side, and the cost is reduced from shortened length of the light bar. Furthermore, the shorter distance also effectively prevents the issue of hot spot when reducing the number of LEDs.

LED lighting is better for the environment because it consumes less energy than traditional light options

The BCR320 products are designed for a peak output current of up to 300mA. For continuous operation a maximum nominal current of 250mA is recommended. While this device has an internal breakdown voltage of typically 20V, it can be operated at supply voltages of 24V or higher since the driver is operated in series with the LEDs. The led high bay light is targeted at general lighting, architectural and mood lighting applications. Another fast growing segment is shop lighting where 0.5W LEDs are preferred in order to spread the light and avoid glare.

The BCR420 products have a higher internal breakdown voltage and a lower output current than the BCR320 devices. The internal breakdown voltage is typically 50V and the nominal output current is 150mA. The BCR420 LED drivers are intended for use in similar applications as mentioned above for a maximum drive current of 150mA.

At the company's headquarters in Montreal, Canlyte engineers were tasked with developing two types of products; indoor lighting using remote phosphor technology and LED technology used in the creation of high-end optical products for exterior lighting. These patented innovations required a controlled assembly line to ensure the elimination of contaminants and static electricity that could affect product quality and performance. To that end, Canlyte built its own Clean Room.

Canlyte plans to double annual production over the next several years, thanks in large part to steady demand in the US export market. But there are benefits beyond return on investment. For instance, LED lighting is better for the environment because it consumes less energy than traditional light options. Companies save on their electricity bills, use premium quality, patented products that can be adapted to their needs, and can take pride in investing in products that are made in Quebec, by Quebecois.

LEDs were advancing very quickly

OGM was founded in Austin, Texas, in November 2002 with the mission to bring environmentally friendly, energy efficient technologies to the marine industry. "We initially looked at fuel cell technology and LEDs," said Meghan Matthews, OGM's cofounder and CEO, "but our research found that LED technology was developing much more rapidly than fuel cells, which has several obstacles yet to overcome. LEDs were advancing very quickly and in 2002, the reds, greens and whites were already primed for specific niche applications such as marine navigation lighting.

To encourage environmental awareness, OGM will migrate its plastic clamshell packaging to a more eco-friendly reusable packaging, aptly named Orca Green LED Lite EcoPacs. "Our first introduction of the EcoPac packaging concept was to bundle our set of LED Navigation lights in a canvas LLBean BoatTote and give a percentage of the sale to non-profit organizations dedicated to preserving our waterways," says Matthews. "But we decided to go one step further and make this commitment to reusable packaging a part of all our products going forward."

Orca Green will continue to examine its supply chain to reduce waste, investing in eco-friendly packaging, bundling and using recycled or reusable containers and other energy conservation products to offer a full solution to its growing number of customers. In the coming weeks, led high bay light will announce several new product offerings, each packaged in a reusable container ranging from lunch bags to stainless steel containers or coolers, all with an emphasis on "boater-reusable."

other facilities at its Rayong factory to produce the LED

Chuck Swoboda demonstrated an A-lamp LED light bulb with the highest lumen output and efficacy reported in the industry. The bulb produces 969 lumens at an impressive 102 lumens per watt, which is the light output equivalent to a 65-watt incandescent bulb, yet it uses only 9.5 watts. The demonstration A-19-style bulb features the latest Cree production XLamp(R) XP-G LEDs and TrueWhite Technology, a patented method of delivering warm-white light with superior color rendering and efficiency. It delivers a 2800 K warm-white light with a 91 CRI. All data was verified by third-party testing under steady-state operating conditions.

The company will spend about 200 million baht next year on molds, a clean room and other facilities at its Rayong factory to produce the LED and LCD sets locally, said Heegol Lee, general marketing manager for home entertainment at LG Electronics (Thailand) Co. Exports will account for about 25 percent of total output. Another 340 million baht will be spent locally next year on promoting LG televisions, with a focus on LCD sets.

Overall demand for televisions shrank by 4.3 percent over the first eight months of the year. But demand for plasma TVs grew by 40 percent in the period and the LCD segment surged by 80 percent, while demand for conventional and flat-screen sets slid. LED units currently account for just 2 percent of sales, but this is forecast to rise to 20 percent next year.

LED TVs has caused severe supply constraint

Taiwan-based LED chipmaker, recently said it is seeking to acquire its local rival Ubilux to expand its output of led high bay light for panel backlighting, according to an article on Taipei Times. The acquisition will make Tyntek Taiwan’s third-largest LED chipmaker, after Epistar Corp and Optotech Corp, the report said.

Tyntek said its board has approved a proposal to acquire Ubilux, a LED arm of Powerchip Semiconductor Corp. According to Tyntek, the acquisition will be conducted through a share swap, and one Tyntek share will be exchanged for 1.375 Ubilux shares. Tyntek will issue 88.07 million new common shares for Ubliux shareholders, making the deal worth about NT$2.81 billion (US$86.8 million). After the acquisition, Powerchip will become the biggest shareholder at Tyntek. The deal is scheduled to close on March 1.

The Hsinchu-based company hopes to build a stronger presence in the booming LED backlight sector, as growing demand for LED TVs has caused severe supply constraint. Tyntek aims to increase its MOCVD tool, which is used to make LED chips, from six units at present to 30 units by the end of next year. This would help generate at least NT$800 million in revenue next year and another NT$2.5 billion in 2011, the company said.

Nu Horizons currently distributes Sharp's electronic components in North America. The new deal marks the distributor's first major LED, optoelectronics and display module franchise in European markets. Nu Horizons will have rights to distribute Sharp Microelectronics' lines of optoelectronics, LEDs, laser diodes, CMOS image sensors, power supply devices and RF components in the UK and Nordic region, plus Sharp's LCD module range in the Nordic region only. In Nordic, Nu Horizons trades as C-88 AS.

the most accurate luminosity of light from the LED

LED current levels in less than 2usec, enabling more accurate color mixing in RGB applications. LED current accuracy of +6% is maintained in order to ensure the most accurate luminosity of light from the LED.

Optimized for single-cell Li-ion battery applications, each part in this new platform is packaged in ultra-thin (0.6mm max.) 14-pin 2x2mm MLPQ package to provide the industry’s smallest solution in reliable and easy-to-handle plastic packaging.

Each member of the SC65x family integrates a high-efficiency charge pump, multiple low-dropout current sink regulators, and the proprietary one-wire SemPulse interface. The mAhXLife charge pump monitors each led high bay light forward voltage and automatically selects between 1x, 1.5x and 2x modes to optimize efficiency as the battery voltage changes over time. The low-dropout current sink regulators provide LED current matching of 0.5% typical to ensure accurate and even illumination. LED current may be adjusted from 0mA to 25mA in 29 settings via the one-wire SemPulse interface.

In many modern handheld systems, the usual I²C serial bus is becoming over-burdened with too many slave ICs. In such cases, the SemPulse interface is highly preferred because it provides a simple means of programming many features while consuming only one GPIO on the baseband or applications/graphics processor. The interface is simple, robust, and very tolerant of sloppy timing caused by interrupts elsewhere in the system.

This is a multi-purpose infrared LED light

A three position toggle switch controller enables the operator to switch from continuous operation to beaconing to off. Thus, soldiers can use the LED10W-1SS-IR as a short range spotlight or floodlight in one mode and a long range LED IR beacon in another mode. The 100 pound grip magnetic base will stick to any steel surface, including vehicles and equipment. An 8 foot cord links the IR beacon to the controller and another 8 foot cord brings power to the controller from the cigarette plug. The infrared LED strobe light with magnetic base operates on any voltage ranging from 9 to 50 volts DC. Initially designed and built for the US military, the Magnalight IR beacon is Buy American Compliant and completely assembled in the USA.

“This is a multi-purpose infrared LED light,” said Rob Bresnahan with Larson Electronics. “Typically, LED lights are separated into two distinct functions, illumination or strobing beacons. The led high bay light combines both into a small unit, with the LED head measuring 2 inches square. The entire unit is less than 5 inches tall and is lightweight. The 100 pound grip magnetic base will hold this small, lightweight unit to any steel surface easily and the IR led light can be removed and put away when not needed. Within this small form factor, is both a short range IR flood light and a long range IR flashing beacon. Thus, operators can use this infrared LED light to illuminate areas to 30 feet with non-visible lighting or they can use it as a directional IR beacon to notify other operators miles away. It draws only ? amp on 12 volts, so its current draw is minimal and the unit is IP67 rated, being both dust proof and water proof.”

King County tested luminaires from two manufacturers on a two-block section of road in Redmond, Wash. While the county's Senior Signal and Illumination Design Engineer Linda Mott says in the article that she was pleased with the "clean crisp light" provided by the luminaires, a report on the pilot test found that neither LED fixture provided light levels within 10 percent of the HPS lamps, the criterion set by the county's traffic engineering division. Mott called the results "pretty disappointing. As a special event this year, the Organizing Committee will also work together with NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) to establish the Green IT Pavilion to introduce the latest leading‐edge energy conservation technologies of Japan such as vehicles powered by fuel cells and wind‐generated power.
