The high-power stage lighting market is seeking more beneficial alternatives to traditional halogen or high-intensity discharge lighting, and LEDs are increasingly being used for staging events, Osram says. Osram is highlighting its portfolio of LEDs (including OSTAR SMT, Diamond DRAGON and Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs - exhibited at the China PALM Expo for professional audio light music technology in Beijing on 28-31 May), which provide efficiency, high brightness and long lifetime for such a demanding environment. Osram Opto says that its LEDs can provide multiple lighting colors (red, green, blue), allowing greater range and variability in lighting options, and can achieve a greater color range through adjusting the intensity of each LED color group.
The OSTAR SMT LED unites power efficiency and RGB color mixing capabilities in a compact surface mountable package. The Diamond DRAGON is Osram’s brightest single-chip LED, with a comprehensive range of colors. The Golden DRAGON Plus is another alternative for a stage illumination light source. Its long lifetime of more than 50,000 hours (depending on conditions), and its feature of emitting light from the smallest possible source using Osram Opto’s Thinfilm/ThinGaN technologies, enable lighting designers to generate new applications, says the firm.We chose the Diamond DRAGON RGB LEDs for our intelligent wash light because we wanted to offer a high-brightness, long-lifetime solution that meets the needs of the high-power stage lighting market,” says PR Lighting's Steve Tulk chief engineer. “This XLED 590, with Osram’s LED, is the brightest intelligent wash light in the market,” he claims. Light output is greater than a conventional 1200W wash light. PR Lighting exhibited more than 20 Diamond DRAGON RGB LED-based wash lights at the China PALM Expo.

Greenlight Initiative has become widely known for its qualitative approach to testing and selection of the solid state lighting solutions it offers to the market. “LED replacement lamps represent the most exciting, but also the most challenging, market opportunities for the solid state lighting industry,” added Mr. Nicolakis. “The acquisition costs for 'screw in' replacements are relatively low, and with the current state-of-the art in led high bay light energy efficiency, they represent a quick payback and return-on-investment, often less than one year in most non-residential applications. If done correctly, replacement lamps represent a way LED lights can quickly gain a lot of traction, and when done incorrectly, they reflect badly on the industry as a whole. Greenlight Initiative, in choosing partners like the Array brand,it is committed to doing it correctly.”

The LED emits light in brilliant colors with excellent contrast
We define the LEDs efficacy (at maintained lumen per watt) of NeoPac Light Engines at 71.4 lm/W (maintained) for White and 50 lm/W (maintained) for Warm in 2009 and this results the said maintained-lumen output at the said power of the three standard NeoPac Light Engines. We further define the efficacy of NeoPac Light Engines at 100 lm/W (maintained) for White and 70 lm/W (maintained) for Warm in 2010 and it will result the same form factor to deliver same lumen output as in 2009 by keeping the same driving current at 530mA. But the power of the three NeoPac Light Engines will be automatically reduced from 14W (1000 lm/700 lm) to 10W (1000 lm/700 lm), from 10W (700 lm/500 lm) to 7 W (700 lm/500 lm) and from 7W (500 lm/350 lm) to 5 W (500 lm/350 lm) since the 8 chips NeoPac Emitter will be replaced by 6 chips NeoPac Emitter for the 14 W-based NeoPac Thermal Module, the 6 chips NeoPac Emitter will be replaced by 4 chips NeoPac Emitter for the 10 W-based NeoPac Thermal Module, the 4 chips NeoPac Emitter will be replaced by a new developed single big chip (70 mil) NeoPac Emitter for the 7 W-based NeoPac Thermal Module respectively.
The tiny dimensions of these components enable a very large number of pixels to be accommodated in a small display area. The LED is housed in a black package that reflects hardly any ambient light at all. The LED emits light in brilliant colors with excellent contrast. With this LED it is possible to have a pixel spacing of only 2 mm so that a great many pixels can be provided in a small area. For example, an area of less than 10 m2 is sufficient to display pictures in HDTV quality and accommodate more than 2 million pixels. A 2.5 x 4.0 m display achieves a system luminance of 1500-2500 cd/m2.This corresponds to around ten times the luminance of a conventional LCD TFT screen.Perfect color mixing takes place in the package itself thanks to the specially developed encapsulation material. Color appearance remains constant across the entire viewing angle, and the picture appears vibrant even when viewed from the side. Ambient light cannot ruin the picture quality because it is barely reflected at all by the black package in which the LED is housed.
The new LED is optimized for general lighting, consumer, and general applications with a high luminous flux requirement and as an alternative to incandescent lamps. Typical end products will include street lighting, architectural lighting, general illumination, and automotive applications such as daytime running lights, interior lighting, fog lights, and door ajar warning lights. The 2009 Lighting for Tomorrow (LFT) competition is to take place May 14-15. OnSpeX, a division of CSA Group and a global provider of consumer product performance evaluations, inspections and advisory services is hosting the judging event for the competition at its testing facility in Cleveland, Ohio, the U.S.

LED driver capability to offer efficient
Lumitex West, formerly Poly-Optical Products, provides strategically-located design of engineered lighting solutions with volume manufacturing from Lumitex Asia’s new production facility in Taipei,” according to Scott Diestel, Western Regional Manager for Lumitex. “This design and production capacity rounds out our domestic resources in Cleveland, Ohio.Diestel added that the West Coast center can provide backlighting designs using the full range of fiber optic technology, including UniGlo? and other innovative fiber optic panels to light cell phone keypads, computer keyboards and a variety of membrane switch applications that require tight space tolerances and minimal thicknesses. Using SMT LED light sources, Lumitex panels provide exceptional thinness (to 0.2 mm), uniform brightness and low power, with no heat or EMI, outstanding design flexibility, quick turn-around and low NRE, unit, assembly and maintenance costs.
Additional features to be available include triac dimming, color temperature regulation, ambient light control and vacuum encapsulation for added durability. IP67, UL1310 Class 2 and other key regulatory approvals are pending. The drivers will be available as standard, off-the shelf product or in custom designs. ERG will maintain a full in-house engineering staff at its U.S. headquarters to meet virtually any special application requirement.ERG has been a specialist in power conversion solutions since 1979. The company designs and manufactures its own magnetic components. ERG originally introduced its Smart Force(TM) line of LED Drivers to provide full-function power supplies for LED-backlit LCDs, and has now broadened its LED driver capability to offer efficient and economical LED drivers for offline and DC powered solid state lighting applications ranging from 1W to 200W.
The Oslon LED has a thermal resistance of 7K/W. Its small size gives designers the flexibility to create extremely sophisticated solutions. If particularly strong light is needed, several light sources can be combined in a cluster. In addition to ultra-white (5700 to 6500 K), the LED will be available this summer in neutral white and warm white. Its color temperature will range from 2700 to 4500 K.The Oslon SSL is manufactured using the latest chip technology, ensuring a high luminous efficacy. At an operating current of 350 mA this light source provides a typical brightness of 110 lm in ultra-white (5700 and 6500 K), with a maximum possible luminous flux of 130 lm at present. At an operating current of 350 mA and a color temperature of 3000 K it achieves a typical efficiency of 75 lm/W and a brightness of 85 lm. And when the operating current increases to 700 mA (warm white), the brightness is as high as 155 lm. The advantage here is that applications that demand high lighting levels can be completed with fewer LEDs.

These systems are used to improve public safety on the streets
The new Infrared Ostar Lighting LED from YAHAM Opto Semiconductors provides 3.5 W of optical output power at 1A with six powerful thin-film chips and a hemispherical. The beam angle and radiant intensity can be varied with standard secondary optics which are readily available on the market. The hexagonal honeycomb shape of this high-power component enables multiple IR LEDs to be combined to form a large space-saving matrix so that the output power can be increased many times. Major applications for the IR Ostar Lighting LED include industrial lighting for camera-based surveillance systems such as CCTV and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).The IR Ostar Lighting LED is available in two wavelengths. At 850 nm, the led high bay light is an optimized union of maximum spectral sensitivity for CCD and CMOS cameras with suppressed visibility for the human eye. The SFH4751 is a version with a wavelength of 940 nm, to which the human eye is almost insensitive. This model is used in applications where visibility of the light source must be eliminated.
We were able to bring the infrared Ostar Lighting quickly to market because of the synergies among the various technologies at the product development stage,” said Harry Feltges, Marketing Manager for Infrared Components at YAHAM Opto Semiconductors. “The package is the same as our popular white Ostar Lighting, so our customers can take advantage of the shared thermal and mechanical designs. With their high optical output, both versions of the IR Ostar Lighting LED are good choices for industrial lighting illumination units for CCTV systems. These systems are used to improve public safety on the streets, at railway stations, at airports and in schools, and also to protect museum exhibits against theft. These IR LEDs have a very long lifetime, even in pulsed mode applications. They are, therefore, suitable as light sources for intelligent transportation systems such as traffic monitoring, toll systems and automatic number plate recognition.
As a new generation of light source, LED is expected to spread rapidly in the near future as people increasingly concerned about environmental issues. However, while the lifetime of LEDs is 30,000 to 40,000 hours, that of existing power supply apparatuses is as short as 10,000 hours, a spokesperson of Kaga Components said, which is attributed to the only 10,000 hours life of the electrolytic capacitor in power supply circuit. We can not disclose details of the circuit configuration because its patent is pending, but we could remove the electrolytic capacitor by improving the circuit configuration of the led high bay light power supply," the company said. The power supply circuit was also downsized through this improvement, with the apparatus measuring only 43 x 29 x 8mm.Equipped with an ON/OFF control function and an output short-circuit protection function, the apparatus can be used with one to five series-connected LEDs and input powers of 100V and 200V at a maximum output of 20V DC 300mA.

the LED lighting industry which is a sector of bright outlook
At present, the target markets of Broit Light’ LED bulbs include commercial users such as stores, restaurants, government offices and hotels. The website it has just launched on Tuesday will also be employed to sell the bulbs directly to consumers.
It’s reported by the industry sources that more than 500 companies across the world are competing in the LED lighting industry which is a sector of bright outlook and has been growing all the time, while Broit has expressed their confidence in this market, for they have patens of the first all solid-state LED light bulbs. The form, fit and function of the LED bulbs will make them direct replacement to existing traditional light sources in the market, according to the officials of the company.
“The Broit family of bulbs will look like today’s incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs and will fit into existing receptacles, produce the same light and color output and will be 55 to 88 percent more efficient,’’ wrote the company in its business plan overview.
LED lighting is currently more than a $20-billion-a-year segment, and is likely to grow at a rate of 20 percent or faster during the next five years, according to the estimate of the Federal Department of Energy. In the United States alone, total lighting is more than a $122-billion-a-year industry. Given its unique technology, the revenue potential of Broit Light could be enormous.
“Because the market is so vast, if we capture to 2 to 3 percent of the market’’, Broit would generate revenue of more than $1 billion annually, said Lance Eaves, company vice president of marketing and sales.

The market demand for new high power applications of LED based SSL
Responding to the comment by Ochiai, Nakamura said, "It is perhaps because white LEDs are developed by a traditional Japanese maker and produced by traditional Japanese lighting equipment manufacturers."using LEDs, lighting devices become colorful and refined in design, and their colors and brightness can be easily controlled by computer software. Considering such innovativeness, it can be said that the culture surrounding led high bay light is completely different from that of existing lights, he said.
Therefore, "Japan will be isolated from the global market" unless not only hardware but also software (expertise on usage) are prepared for LED lights, Nakamura said.Meanwhile, Kido said that standardizations of hardware and software are important to prevent Japan from being isolated from the global market. Many experts say that it is very difficult to standardize them because LED lights have already been commercialized. On the other hand, for organic EL lights, which are expected to be commercialized soon, "Japan should take initiative in determining the standards
With 240 pieces 1-Watt White LED and the newly patented freeform reflective lens design the LED Street Light 240 provides a total luminous flux of 14,550lm. The company says that is another revolutionary breakthrough in the development of core LED Technologies relative to solid-state lighting. So far, Neo-Neon? has invested considerable time, energy, and resources to meet the market demand for new high power applications of LED based SSL.Differing from its first version which uses reflectors, the new generation of led high bay light technology is an advanced optical design using freeform reflective lens, a precisely designed and tooled optical device that shapes and directs the divergence of the fast axis of the LED to achieve the optimal Lux boosting.

the LED light enables people to both read
Because the LED tube lamp is designed to use a socket for fluorescent tubes, it can replace a fluorescent lamp without changing or removing the socket. It supports both glow-starter and rapid-start methods. Its power consumption varies from 20 to 24W depending on what lighting device it is used with. Its rated life is 40,000 hours, which is "about five times the life of general fluorescent lamps," the company said. The lamp uses led high bay light for its tube cover, which is available in translucent white and transparent colors. The weight is 500g. The suggested retail price is ¥28,000 (approx US$306) per unit for both models. Shipments will start in late February 2009.Toshin Electric is planning to sell the lamp in cases containing five units each. But it will also be sold in single units through the company's direct online shop from March 2009. The company aims to sell 50,000 units in the first year.
The company says the LED light enables people to both read and write after dark. It’s disclosed that Philips’s “My Reading Light” was developed specifically for the education sector in Africa and will allow school children to continue with their homework after sunset. For the estimated 500 million Africans who live without electricity, nightfall means either darkness or the flickering light of a candle or kerosene lamp. Since kerosene lanterns pose health and safety risks, are expensive, and have a low light output, LED-based lamps may be a solution. Rudy Provoost, executive VP and CEO of Philips Lighting, pointed out that offering LED lights leads to a triple-win: the lives of people in Africa will be generally improved, LEDs result in a very low carbon footprint, and companies offering the right solutions stand to gain.
The reading light is extremely lightweight and can be hand-held or placed over the page of a book, allowing the user to read or write. There is a choice of high/middle/low dimming settings. It has a built-in rechargeable battery providing between 3.5 and 9 hours of light depending on the light level selected. This new development is part of led high bay light commitment both to developing sustainable lighting solutions for Africa and to its partnership with the Dutch government on the Sustainable Energy Solutions for Africa (SESA) project, which aims to provide 10 million people with affordable, appropriate and sustainable energy services across ten sub-Saharan African countries by 2015. SESA links with the existing UN Millennium Development Goals project.
