In addition, manufacturing processes for OLEDs have also progressed significantly. GE and the Fraunhofer Institute have both demonstrated roll-to-roll manufacturing of OLED lighting which will ultimately lead to significant cost improvements in OLED fabrication. Low cost printing approaches and new small molecule inks will also help propel led flood light into the backlighting market. The related expects that the OLED backlighting market will reach $1.1 billion by 2015. And while the first OLED lighting panels are quite small, the recent scaling up of factories in Asia to build large OLED displays will certainly benefit the manufacturing infrastructure for LED lighting and lead to larger panels within a few years.
There is an increasing demand to develop brighter green LEDs for future applications such as back light for high-definition LCD television. Under the agreement, Taiyo Nippon Sanso and IMEC will develop high-efficiency green LED device manufacturing technology based on IMEC's compound semiconductors device technology. Research is mainly carried out at the IMEC facilities in Leuven, Belgium and builds on IMEC's expertise in strain engineering on large wafer diameter, supported by in-situ growth monitoring.
According to Professor Gilbert Declerk, president and CEO of IMEC, the collaboration with Taiyo Nippon Sanso, a total solution provider in the compound semiconductor field including metal organic materials, gas supply system, purification, abatement system and MOCVD tool, enables us to accelerate the development of high efficiency green led high bay light manufacturing technology. This is a unique opportunity to create a transcendent technology that not only enables energy-efficient lighting, but also creates the next generation of secure wireless communications. As we switch from incandescent and compact florescent lighting to LEDs in the coming years, we can simultaneously build a faster and more secure communications infrastructure at a modest cost along with new and unexpected applications.

Green Light also sells LED bulbs
The multi-chip ultra high power EdiPower Series deliver never before seen luminous flux output from a single emitter. The superficial illuminating nature of EdiPower makes them the preference in task lighting, high specification down lighting, street lighting, led high bay light Series , projector, spot lighting ,and high profile architectural lighting. We suggested using EdiPower with Star (ALPCB) will be easier to apply in lighting applications. The EdiPower with Star can use M3 screws to fix on the heatsink or other metal utilities. It’s strongly recommended using thermal grease between Star and heatsinks. An effective thermal design relies on heat conduction and dissipation. The conduction path which heat travels is dependant on material properties while dissipation depends heavily on the surface area of the heatsink.
Therefore, it is important to provide a fast heat conduction path for the LEDs by reducing the contact resistance between the interfaces. One common method is applying thermal grease. Thermal grease is also known as gap filler; its main purpose is to provide a direct thermal path from heat source to heatsink device.Green Light also sells LED bulbs. LEDs are great for accent lighting, task lighting and indirect lighting, Cale custom-built some LED fixtures for the addition, including sconces and a fabric-diffused chandelier. In the library, LED rope lighting that outlines the crown molding changes to red, green, purple and yellow in a soft, pleasant glow. LEDs fill silvery glass pendant fixtures in the bathroom. Recessed LED cans are installed in the sunroom ceiling. LED sconces accent the bedroom. Fabric-shaded LED chandeliers hang in different rooms. That’s because LEDs can last 50,000 hours or more than 20 years, about five times longer than compact fluorescent bulbs and 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
Because of their diminutive size and their ability to withstand temperature changes, LEDs are becoming a more popular choice for unobtrusive low-voltage landscape lighting. The Cleveland-based manufacturer Kichler makes LEDs to illuminate trees, paths and patios. As their price has dropped, LEDs also have become more mainstream for strings of holiday lights. The C9 and C7 incandescents are brighter than their LED counterparts, but mini led flood light are brighter than mini incandescent holiday lights. It’s known that LEDs are becoming more commonly used for under-cabinet lighting in kitchens, the reddish glow of the LEDs helps warm up the cool colors in his kitchen. The future is looking brighter for LEDs, the next generation of energy-efficient lighting.

LED is ideal for use in lighting applications where height is a constraint
Strategies Unlimited, a market research firm, is forecasting a compounded
annual growth rate (CAGR) for the LED market over the next five years of 20
percent. High-brightness LEDs are projected to grow by 12 percent in 2008, while
other markets are set to emerge around display backlighting, camera flash,
architectural lighting, task lighting, commercial and other general lighting
applications. As a result of these burgeoning market segments and related
applications, the overall LED market is expected to reach a total size of $11.4
billion by 2012.
"At Bridgelux our capabilities in gallium nitride epitaxy growth processes, device structures and chip designs, coupled with our market knowledge, has enabled us to quickly become a leader in the high-power LED industry," said Mark Swoboda, CEO of BridgeLux, in a statement. "With innovative technology and a solid business model focused around a growing market, Bridgelux is representative of precisely the type of investment we seek. On the management side, Bridgelux's team features an impressive roster of seasoned individuals with combined experience in the LED, IC, compound semiconductor materials, lighting and consumer electronics sectors, all of whom will be key to driving its future success," said Jim Diller of VentureTech Alliance.
Available in one of the industry’s thinnest packages, Avago’s ASMT-MW09 is an energy efficient LED emitter that’s encapsulated in a heat and UV resistant silicone compound for high reliability and long life. This competitively priced Moonstone cool white LED emitter provides designers of solid-state lighting applications with a wide viewing angle radiation pattern and superior heat dissipation. Moreover, this new cool white LED is ideal for use in lighting applications where height is a constraint. Typical applications include architectural façade lighting, track lights, spot lights and street lamps.

Each module also incorporates optical design features
The company also has several existing medical customers including
Erchonia Medical Instruments, a leader in low power laser therapy for
dermatology and pain management treatments, for its laser modules.
Having completed significant development efforts in 2007, the company's specialty optical fiber division expects to commence shipments of its first fiber-based laser delivery assemblies for minimally invasive surgery in the first quarter of 2008.
Twenty of StockerYale's LED system modules will be used in point of care treatment systems under development to be used as a photo-initiator for a pharmaceutical product and will be involved in clinical trials in the spring of 2008. Each module incorporates more than 100 each of two types of LEDs with custom wavelengths. Each module also incorporates optical design features, thermal management expertise and an integrated control circuit. The company also expects to significantly ramp up production of its custom-engineered LED modules for the dental market for a Fortune 100 company in 2008.
Concluded Blodgett, "We enter 2008 on the cusp of delivering on our medical vertical strategy to further penetrate a fast-growing and significant market opportunity. Coupled with the recent appointment of a new chief operating officer and chief financial officer tasked to improve operational performance across the entire organization and underpinned by market-leading technologies, we have in place the requirements for a successful 2008 and beyond.
